How can NRIs get Tax Exemption on Donations Made to NGOs in India?
If you are an NRI and want to support social causes in India, but often wonder whether your donations qualify for tax exemptions. The good news is that NRIs can claim tax benefits on donations made to eligible NGOs in India, provided the organisation is registered under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act.
When an NRI donates to an NGO with valid 80G approval, they are entitled to claim a 50% or 100% deduction (depending on the NGO’s certification) on their taxable income in India. Donations must be made through banking channels such as credit card, net banking, cheque, or international transfer- cash donations are not eligible.
