Hey, This year I am taking part in Baby Bummit, the biggest charity hitchhike in the UK.On the 9th November, myself and over 200 others will have 1 day to get from Sheffield all the way to Cardiff. To do this we will be relying completely on the kindness of strangers for lifts.This year we are supporting:S6 Foodbank - The S6 Foodbank provides emergency food and essentials to those who need it most, working on a referral basis local people are given a minimum of 3 days of nutritionally balanced emergency food and support.Hope For the Future - Hope for the Future is a climate charity that works to equip communities, groups, and individuals across the country to communicate the urgency of climate change with their local politicians.Shout - Shout is the UK&#x27;s first and only free, confidential, 24/7 text messaging support service for anyone who is struggling to cope with their mental health.Sheffield Young Carers - Dedicated to supporting young carers and young people affected by drug and alcohol issues in their families.To find out more check out: https://bummit.union.shef.ac.uk/Thanks! :)

George's Bummit to Edinburgh

This April I will be taking part in Bummit, the biggest charity hitchhike in the UK. I will have a week to hitchhike from Sheffield all the way to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. These are the great charities that I will be supporting:The Sick Children&#x27;s TrustThe Sick Children&#x27;s Trust supports the families of children who are being treated at Sheffield&#x27;s General Hospital by providing them with a place to stay, just minutes from the child&#x27;s bedside.ASSIST SheffieldASSIST provides accomodation, information and various types of other support for people in Sheffield who are seeking asylum. Just £5 can:- Fund 12 weekends’ accommodation for someone we support.- Buy essential basic supplies for one of our houses.- Fund a course for volunteers on asylum issues.And, £40 can fund:- Fund a room in one of the ASSIST houses for 6 months.- Provide 6 months of welfare payments.The Broomhall Homework ClubThe Broomhall Homework Club provides a space for young people to study, access computers, support with their studies and university/job applications for theirfutures.Over the last few year the club has been at risk of closing down, our Big Bummit fundraising could keep it running and provide the funds needed to last over a year!RoundaboutRoundabout is South Yorkshire’s local youth housing charity providing shelter, support and life skills to young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.Roundabout now supports over 300 young people aged 16-25 every day. Providing emergency accommodation in a Sheffield hostel, supporting young people in residential projects in Sheffield and Rotherham and providing key services delivering comprehensive programmes of training, involvement and empowerment which help to prepare young people for independent living.LegebitraI will also be supporting the Ljubljana-based charity Legebitra. Legebitra advocate for social and systemic changes based on respect for sexual orientation, gender identity and/or gender expression.They support the LGBTQ+ community with counselling, support groups, and education, all while working to increase safety for community members across Slovenia with localised campaigns and law changes.The money will be split equally between the 5 charities, and will improve people&#x27;s lives in both the local community and beyond.
