On October 12th 2024 a group of staff from the Plastic Surgery Department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, along with some family members, will be taking to the sky to complete a Skydive to help raise some money for Keeping Abreast, a charity that supports so many individuals through the most difficult times in their lives.
Keeping Abreast is a Norfolk based charity and was established by 2 patients and their breast cancer nurse specialist in 2007. They recognised there was a great need for women, both newly diagnosed with breast cancer, facing the possibility of a mastectomy (with or without an immediate reconstruction) and also for women who had previously had a mastectomy and facing the decision of a delayed reconstruction, to be able to meet and talk to other women who had been through similar experiences. This would enable women to make an informed choice about whether or not to proceed with breast reconstruction.
The support they are now able to offer is tailored to the individual at what is a difficult, life changing and overwhelming time of decision making and Keeping Abreast helps women make an informed choice, one that is right for them.
This support comes in the form of support groups, real-life surgery results and patient stories on the Keeping Abreast website, talking to one of the volunteers on-hand over the telephone or attending the monthly online mindfulness sessions.Individual support may also need to be provided over a number of months, starting before and continuing after surgery.
Please view the Keeping Abreast website for further details on the support offered and the work they do.
Thank you for reading and we will see you in the sky !
