The Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital was already keeping an eye on my prostate cancer when I first started to plan this walk, but I didn’t know then that I’d need four weeks of radiotherapy this January.
In the second week of June 2024 I’m setting off to walk 150km in seven days from the Kennet and Avon Canal at Pewsey, Wiltshire to the River Wye at Hereford.
The combined effects of my treatment and the hormone medication I'll be on for another 16 months have undoubtedly affected my fitness. But they've also increased my determination to do the walk, not least as a thank you to the Royal Marsden’s wonderful team. The Royal Marsden is a world leader in cancer care, pioneering treatment and ground breaking research.
I’m also raising money for a small new environmental charity, of which I’m a trustee - Fish In Need (“FIN”).
Freshwater fish in the UK are suffering terribly from the combined effects of pollution, predation and water abstraction, and FIN is looking to help redress the balance.
All donations through this page will be split 50/50 between the two charities.
