Hi, I’m Sally Orange MBE – and I’m taking on the Everest Marathon to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer and mental health.
I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and while it was a huge shock, I’m determined to turn this challenge into something positive. Just three weeks after being told I had cancer, I ran the London Marathon dressed as a giant boob – because if it makes people laugh, look, and start talking about checking themselves, it’s absolutely worth it.
With my surgeon’s support, I’ve now postponed surgery by two weeks to take on the world’s highest marathon – the Everest Marathon – because I want to take this life-saving message to new heights (literally).
I’ve already heard from four women who checked themselves after seeing my story – and found lumps. That’s exactly why I’m doing this.
As someone who’s struggled with mental ill health, I’ve spent years using my running and fruity fancy dress outfits to break down stigma and start difficult conversations. I’ve completed over 85 marathons dressed as different fruits to make people smile and talk – because sometimes humour is the best way to start a serious conversation.
This time, I’ll be trekking to Everest Base Camp dressed as a giant boob before switching to a lime costume for the marathon – a zesty follow-up to last year’s lemon!
Your support means the world – whether it’s helping fund research, encouraging people to check themselves, or simply showing that we’re never alone in our challenges.
Thank you for helping me take this message to new heights – and hopefully save some lives along the way.
