Hey there,
As some people may know, my family was unfortunately one of many to receive the news of a six-letter word that no one ever wants to hear.
My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in late December, and to say it was a shock is an understatement. However, the tenacity, optimism, and pure strength she has shown since receiving her diagnosis have been nothing short of incredible. My mum is my best friend, and watching her handle all the sudden changes her treatment and its side effects bring, with grace and defiance, has left me in absolute awe. She truly is making cancer her bitch (for lack of a better phrase).
Seeing firsthand how efficient the Macmillan Support Centre has been—from nurses constantly checking in during her treatment to weekly phone calls and the incredibly quick turnaround from diagnosis to treatment—has been amazing. We often hear about long waiting times, missed diagnoses, and delayed treatments in the news. However, my family and I feel incredibly reassured and lucky knowing that the Macmillan nurses and support team are taking such good care of my mum. The fact that she’s receiving unwavering support, even when so many others are going through the same battle, just goes to show how crucial and incredible Macmillan is for those facing cancer.
This is why I have decided to run the Battersea Half Marathon—to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, not only for my mum but for all those who have received exceptional care under Macmillan’s guidance.
We all know someone who has been affected by cancer, or we’ve been directly impacted ourselves. There’s nothing harder than when it hits your own home, so I couldn’t think of a more meaningful charity to support.
If you’d like to donate, no matter how much, I would be eternally grateful. Thank you so much for your support—I’ll be working hard to get myself across that finish line!
