Breast Cancer Now & Gainsborough Half Marathon

Created By Alexander Martin

I'll be up front, I don't like running. I like not running, I like sitting down (especially with a pint) and I like eating bad food.

But about this time last year, I decided to make some changes to live a bit healthier. I started running here and there, hit the gym with the help of a brilliant personal trainer (thanks, Isaac!), and tracked my calories and macronutrients. I lost around 12kg. Admittedly, I've put a couple kg back on over the summer — but with school starting again, I’m ready to get back into the swing of things.

Isaac’s encouragement has inspired me, along with a few others, to take on the Gainsborough Half Marathon this November. I’ve never run a half marathon before — in fact I’m pretty sure I’ve never even run 10k — but I’ve got a training plan and I’m determined to give it a real go.

While it’s a personal challenge, I want it to be about more than just me. Each year over 55,000 women in the UK are diagnosed with breast cancer — my mum recently among them. Thankfully, hers was caught early (Stage 1) and her prognosis is positive. That’s in no small part thanks to the research that’s constantly improving outcomes for women like her.

So, in running this race, I’d love to raise funds for Breast Cancer Now, to support that vital research and help others facing this disease. If you can donate, I’d be hugely grateful. Thank you!
