Brighton Marathon 2024

Created By Jay Andrews
Right, so now i’m a position where I’m confident that I’ll actually be able to endure a marathon I’ve started this fundraiser, a bit of a back story:

Other than chasing a football on a Sunday morning I’ve not properly run anywhere, my running vo2 max was absolutely shocking.
I’ve raised money for my friend Stevo’s charity over the last couple of years doing a 100mile/ 100mile b2b / 200mile ride in consecutive years but I’ve never done something like this before:

In running I can genuinely say I’ve been a complete beginner 🏃🏽‍♂️

One of my friends suggested doing a marathon in memory of his little girl Immie-Rae, who sadly passed away, words from James and the first charity Sands:

“Immie Rae was born in June 2023.
After a generally healthy pregnancy with Immie, my wife suffered a placental abruption at 37+5 weeks.
Immie was born by emergency C-section on 6th June and sadly died just 6 hours later due to Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) - a lack of oxygen to the brain, unfortunately, caused by the placental abruption.”

Sands charity, for those that don't know is a charity that provides invaluable support and help to those affected by the loss of a baby.”

I’m choosing to run for two additional charities, both of which I’ll continue to support as long as I’m able to:

“The first is raising funds for research and support for people who live with Motor Neurone Disease in memory of my good friend Tom Stevenson who sadly lost his battle after close to 10 years fighting, love you mate, you inspire me every day!”

“The other one closer to home, St.Giles Hospice. They’ve been there for my family and are a charity close to our hearts, they support people living with incurable illnesses and rely on fundraisers like this to provide the services they need to in the community!”

As mentioned above, I’m a complete beginner at running, I found a free 20-
week running programme online and I’m still finding that my longest run PB is getting broken every other week proving that I’ve not really ran before.

My feet and body have taken an absolute beating and can tell you the story though.. 😅

If you’ve read this far then thank you, I’ve done my best to document my progress via my Instagram account. You can find my progress updates on Strava

I’ll be running the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 7th April 2024 with my 3 friends, James, Sam, and Ben. We'll all be trying to raise as much awareness as possible.
Of course, I appreciate that times are tough but please donate what you can afford, I’m sure you can agree that all 3 charities are worth as much as possible.

See you all at the finish line.. (I hope!) 🏁
