Big Day Out

My Challenge for The Brain Tumour Charity and Children's Book Project

My Personal Story

As some of you know, both of my parents passed away from glioblastoma. To honour their memory and raise funds for The Brain Tumour Charity, I regularly take on tough challenges – and this time, I’ve set my biggest one yet.

Brain tumours can affect anyone, but they are still relatively rare. Glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive forms, is diagnosed in 5 in every 100,000 adults each year, with an average survival of just 12–18 months. To put my experience into perspective, the odds of both parents being diagnosed independently in the same year are just 1 in 40 million. Yet despite brain tumours being the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40 in the UK, research remains severely underfunded.

Our corporate charity partner

It is also important to reflect how supportive FDM have been in allowing me to balance work, family life and training. This year we have partnered with a new charity, the Children’s Book Project, to help improve child literacy across the UK. With 2 young boys I realise how important access to story books and reading is. Any steps we can take to improve childrens access to books has a massive imapact

The Challenge

Inspired by Remco Evenepoel’s iconic gold medal moment at the Paris Olympics, I’ve designed my own Olympic-sized endurance challenge:

🚴 Cycle from Trafalgar Square to Brighton
🏃 Run the Brighton Marathon
🚴 Cycle from Brighton to Dover
⛴️ Ferry to Calais
🚴 Cycle from Calais to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris

In total, that’s 600 km of cycling and a marathon, all within 48 hours, before returning to London.

Why Am I Doing This?

Because brain tumour research needs urgent funding. Every donation, every share, and every show of support brings us one step closer to better treatments and, one day, a cure.

Please donate and help us make a difference – because research gives hope.
