I'm going to be completing the ULTRA-X Tanzania event in February 2024 in an effort to raise some money for food banks across Leeds. As a PE teacher based in Farnley, Leeds, what better way is there to raise money, than to do some form of sport. 220km of running across 5 days, in Tanzania. Running part way up Mount Kilimanjaro, across nature reserves, and completing almost 6000m elevation gain. Anyone that knows me will know I'm far from the most talented athlete, but love to have a ridiculous (or stupid) idea every now and then, except this time I've actually followed through with it. Having worked for over two years in a secondary school in Leeds I have witnessed how amazing the people of this city are. However, the job also brings a harsh reminder of the difficulties and challenges many in the local area may face. With increasing cost of living and cost of feeding a family, supporting a foodbank was something I wanted to do for young people and families in Leeds. I want to raise as much money for these food banks so I know that I have done something to help the families of some of the young people I teach, but also further across the city. Everyone deserves to be supported, and if there's a chance to give back, I believe we should. So here it goes, an incredibly average runner, running a long long way, in Africa, to raise some money. Anything you can do or give to help is amazing!
