BRIT Challenge 2023 University of Bolton

University of Bolton BRIT CHallenge 2023

Indoor Climbing

The Sport & Wellness Centre would like to run two concurrent activities that will hopefully give a clear promotion of inclusivity. The return of students in September 2022 has seen an increased interest in climbing and we envisage a climbing club being formed very soon. We will have participants climbing a total of 2023ft and this will be recorded on our graph chart beside the climbing wall.

The participation in climbing from a mental health viewpoint is invaluable and challenges the individual to overcome obstacles and barriers and builds resilience. The climbing challenge can display to students what benefits physical activity can bring and show them that physical activity, however limited, can be beneficial to their study journey, maintain a continuously good mental health approach and aligns with the aims of the University Student Mental Health & Wellbeing Strategy (SMH&WS).

Archery Competition

Archery has always been a very popular activity for our students over the years. The scoring system on the archery targets will be used to obtain a score of 2023. This may take numerous attempts but we hope students and staff will get behind this and attempt to achieve this great score line before anyone else. The person achieving this great score first will win a mountain bike. Archery sessions will be provided in our sports hall on the scheduled days and everyone will have an opportunity to take part. Archery is an activity for all abilities and can be a barrier breaker for those students with accessible needs. The activity will be conducted by trained archery instructors and even those with wheelchair access can participate.

Five -a-Side Football Competition.

This will involve multiple teams playing a 5 a side competition for 20hrs and 23minutes continuously. There will be 12 teams. 6 teams on each playing schedule. Teams will play for 2 hours at any time then other teams will play on a scheduled fixture basis. The competition is designed never to stop for the whole duration of the event.

You can hopefully see how quite simply all departments can become involved in this great student based mental health charity event no matter how small the event may be. As I said before all participants will be able to obtain their own sponsors for the charity event to raise as much as they can for the campaign.

Any activity no matter how small could contribute to our findraising.

These inclusive activities will enable our students and staff to take part in inspiring team challenges for all abilities and improve their mental health and fitness; be that on campus or at home. It is also a super feel-good fundraiser for the university to assist their students in raising vital funds for BRIT’s partner mental health charities who support young adults.

Please donate whatever you can in support of this fully inclusive fundrasing event.

Thank You.
