4 Dads Row the Thames

Created By Hugh Elwes

We are four dads, Nick Digby, Hugh Elwes, Rory Carnegie and Al Davidson raising money for two fantastic causes. Our four sons are all rowers in the British Rowing Team, hoping to be selected for the Paris Olympics in July 2024. We decided that watching from the towpath was not enough and we should get out there and learn to row, setting ourselves a formidable challenge, and supporting two great causes.
The hard work, challenge and pain will all be worth it:

We have all been affected by cancer - friends, family members, work colleagues. The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity exists to support the hospital, so it can continue to make such a significant difference to the lives of its patients and their loved ones, as well as cancer patients across the world.

Love Rowing (also known as the British Rowing Charitable Foundation) is a charity that uses the social power of Rowing to transform lives. Love Rowing funds projects nationwide to support people who are more likely to have significant health inequalities, including disabled people and young people living in poverty.  We have all seen the power of what ultimate team sport can do!

The challenge - Rowing the Thames!

As non-rowers, we are planning to row from Lechlade in Gloucestershire, the highest navigable part of the Thames, to Putney from 2nd to 6th May over five days. We will be finishing by rowing (the wrong way!) down the Boat Race course on the Tideway.  It is 133 miles and involves navigating 40 locks, but also no doubt rogue swans, cruise boats and river debris.

We want to raise as much as possible so please give as generously as you can- every little counts towards two brilliant causes!
