I'll be running/walking the coastal route of the Portuguese Camino de Santiago, which starts in Porto and ends at Santiago de Compostela (a distance of 280 km / 175 mi), to raise money for In2ScienceUK.
My goal is to complete the journey in seven days (around a marathon per day!), but if it takes longer, I'll add an extra £100 donation to the pot each day beyond that.
On May 15th, I'll set off from Porto Cathedral aiming to arrive seven days later at the Cathedral de Santiago de Compostela on May 22nd.
I'm covering all costs for travel, food, equipment, housing, and other expenses, so your donations will go directly to In2ScienceUK to further their mission of increasing the number of children from low-income and disadvantaged backgrounds entering STEM careers.
Along the way, I'll share updates and photos of my progress. I'll also be happy to answer any questions you might have!
Why?
Every child has the potential to change the world for the better, but often, only those born into advantageous situations are given the chance.
In2ScienceUK helps young people from low-income backgrounds gain summer work experience placements in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and manufacturing) fields within research and industrial environments.
Alongside these placements, they also provide workshops and skills days to support progression to university and, ultimately, STEM careers.
The next Einstein, Anning, Hopper, or Hawking could come from any background, provided they are given the right opportunities!
About Me
I'm the co-founder of a company called Pimoroni, which designs and manufactures electronics for hobbyists and educational purposes. I'm also fortunate to be the father of a talented and funny twelve-year-old named Isobel, who has the potential and ability to achieve anything she wants in the future—seriously, watch this space!
